Having trouble gaining followers, fans, or clients? Maybe you’re giving off the wrong vibe.
Are your photos or stage presence stiff? Do you get nervous when you talk to people? You may need to relax and show them the real you. This may require taking a huge leap.
What happens when you let go
I recently spoke at a conference for Christian Women CEO’s – on my birthday! These were Christian business owners and entrepreneurs. Many of these ladies were making 6 and even 7-figures and many were African-American.
Although I’m in the group that sponsored the event, IACBW, they’ve never heard me speak – or drum. When I saw that my photo appeared with several others with the caption “Featuring world-class speakers,” I knew this was upleveling at its best. The bar had just been raised.
I told myself that this was my vision. I wanted to speak at bigger events. They even asked me for my theme song! I actually selected one years ago. It’s “All Fired Up,” by Pat Benatar, in case you’re wondering.
My talk got bumped to a later time slot, so I decided not to use my handouts. I didn’t think they needed any more strategies so I just started telling my story and then let God do the rest. I provided hand drums and percussion instruments and gave them a quick tutorial. Then, I decided we needed to take it up a notch so I got the DJ to cue up an abridged version of “Uptown Funk” and we let loose! Call my session “inspiring entertainment.” Tips were shared but it was mostly fun.
Some of these ladies got to see a side of me that they’ve never seen before. I got a lot of “Wow! That was amazing! I had no idea!” Maybe it’s because I took a leap of faith and decided to show the real me. Yes, I’m a white chick with rhythm and I dance when I play. And yes, drumming in a group is not only fun but it’s a great release! It can also bring clarity and healing.
Later, I checked my email. Sure enough, there were other opportunities and inquiries, including a speaking and drumming gig in DC, called Women Leading from the Heart. Coincidence? I think not.
What creates good vibes
1. Presence: Exuding confidence
2. Personality: Energy and authenticity
3. Passion: Are you showing it?
Moral of the story: Be you and don’t hold back! Your passion for what you do will create a great vibe – and a bigger tribe! Tell the naysayers: “Don’t believe me? Just watch!”
