Do You Know Your Purpose?

How’s that for a deep question? While I wouldn’t use this as a conversation starter, it is something that crosses everyone’s mind at some point in time.

It’s the basis for much confusion, regardless of age. You see, people confuse what they enjoy with their purpose. Your purpose goes way deeper than that. It has to do with gifts, timing, and your Divine Assignment. This assignment can be just for a season or it can be much longer.

A student once asked me why we are here. Here was my response:

The Big Picture

I recently had a conversation with an older gentleman as I was waiting for my car to be serviced. He was a teacher and it was clear that he loved his job. I then told him how I loaded up my car with drums to go teach a group of at-risk kids, only to discover that my car wouldn’t start. He listened to my “bounce back story” and how I’m now using drumming to help others. He said: “You are a prime example of living your purpose.” Yep, that made me choke up.

When others confirm your gifts and talents and mention their effect, that’s a strong indication that you’re living your purpose. It’s not about you at this point. It’s about how your gifts are impacting others. One reason that many people slip into depression is that they don’t understand that God has plans for them and they can make a difference. Like my car battery, they’re just drained.

If you’d like to explore your purpose, contact me and let’s chat! If you’d like me to come out to your church, group, or organization for a motivational talk or for some therapeutic drumming, my car is all fixed and I’m ready to go!
