5 Tips to Drum Up Business and Attract Clients

Building a business is a lot like starting a band. As a former booking agent and concert promoter, one thing I learned is that you can’t just book a show and hope people show up. It doesn’t matter how talented the bands and solo artists are, certain things need to be done in order to find and attract fans (aka paying customers).

The same applies to starting a business. You can’t just put up a website and hope people find you. Just like the bands, you need to do a whole lot of marketing and promotion. Here are some helpful tips:

1. Build Your Brand – Decide what your brand represents and what makes you stand out. Branding should be driving all of your marketing efforts.
2. Build a Buzz – Start getting the word out about your company, your product, or your services, both in person and on social media. Let people know what they’ll be getting and why they don’t want to miss out.
3. Build Your Confidence – In order to convince people to work with you, you have to really believe in yourself and what you have to offer. Don’t hide your talents or services or discount them! Show people that you are excited and you were born to do this.
4. Build Relationships – Connect with people, don’t just try to sell them! This applies to in person and social media. Show an interest in them, ask them what they need, and follow-up!
5. Build (and Spread) Positivity – People are attracted to positive, dynamic, and energetic people. If you want to move ahead, you need to eliminate negative self-talk, sarcasm, and limiting beliefs. Even if you’re struggling now, you need to have faith! Believe and expect that things will improve – and they will!

The key to all of your efforts is to be consistent. It’s not a one-shot deal. These are habits that need to be practiced over and over again. Before you know it, people will be gravitating to you and you’ll gain a loyal following. You don’t have to be a rock star to have excited fans!
